Inviting You To WATBlog Panel On Digital Convergence On 20th December At Mumbai

We did our last panel in IIM Bangalore and for the year end we come back to Mumbai with a panel on Digital convergence with special focus on Internet and mobile. We invite all our readers to this panel discussion. Here are the details:

WATBlog Panel on Entrepreneurship In Digital Media – Opportunities & Challenges is being organised at NMIMS College in Mumbai on 20th December, 2009. This is in association with Zeal 09 in collaboration with NMIMS E-Cell and O2 Supply.

We aim to touch upon the following points  via the panel:


* Convergence of Mobile and Web – Impact
* Hand helds and their impact on Digital Media
* Impact of Digital on Traditional Media
* Changing Usage Pattern Of Consumers

The panelists are:

Akshay Garg, Co-Founder and Business Head, Komli Media

Akshay leads Komli Media’s ad network where he is responsible for operations, sales, overall strategy and business management of the unit. He previously ran a cross-border consulting company and an Indian restaurant in Kunming, China, and built India’s leading offline Chinese school in New Delhi. Before getting bitten by the entrepreneurial bug, he worked as an analyst at the United Nations in Geneva and at Deloitte Consulting in Seattle. A Sinophile, Akshay speaks fluent Chinese and gets an itch if he doesn’t make it there at least once every six months. Akshay did post-graduate work in economics at the University of Geneva in Switzerland, and attended Whitman College in USA for his Bachelor’s degree. He likes mountain biking and playing tennis.

Jai Maroo – Director – Shemaroo Entertainment

Currently Jai heads a few key expansion initiatives in Shemaroo. Given his strong technical background, he is in charge of expanding Shemaroo’s reach on newer digital distribution platforms, such as IPTV, VOD, Mobile, and so on, as well as leading several technology-driven initiatives within the entertainment space.  Finally, he complements the rest of the board on guiding overall strategy for the company.

Prior to joining Shemaroo, he worked for Citrix Systems Inc, Florida for 4 years as a software engineer and team lead. He holds a Masters in Computer Science and Engineering from PennState University, and a Bachelors in Computer Engineering from Mumbai University.

Manoj Dawane – Chief Executive Officer -  Mauj Mobile

Manoj is the Chief Executive Officer of Mauj Mobile – wireless division of People Group, which owns interactive websites such as Shaadi.com, Fropper.com, Makaan.com and Astrolife.com and also entertainment oriented business called People Pictures (movie production). This vehicle is funded by Sequoia Capital and Intel Capital (was the first one to get funded in mVAS space) to $ 10 Mn in the first round.

Mauj Mobile is a Mobile Media Business founded on Consumer Applications and Content Aggregation & Distribution, executed through managed storefronts and monetized through the company’s own fully integrated mobile advertisement platform.

As CEO, Manoj leads the Mauj Mobile team on their strategic growth path, both in domestic and international markets, addressing telecom operators, media companies, agencies and brands as primary customers.

With an experience of over 15 years in the field of Telecom and Software, Manoj has worked with some of the country’s leading telecom & technology companies, before joining Mauj Mobile.

Sunil R Nair -  CEO and Co founder -  Nautanki.tv
Sunil R Nair, the CEO and Co founder of nautanki.tv is, has over 12 years experience in the digital space.

A former marketing strategy advisor to various digital companies, he started his career with a software startup. He went on to head various positions mainly at mobile vas giant Hungama as the Head of strategy, Business Head at Pinstorm, Head of Planning at WebPercept and as CEO of the digital agency, Brand Portrait Digital.

He founded nautanki.tv in November 2006. Nautanki.tv is the largest platform for branded online video content in South Asia and works with major TV Channels and publishers. Nautanki.tv became the first mover in the space of branded online content using a distributed model and this model is now a default approach used by broadcasters all over the world. Sunil is also actively involved in mentoring new ideas in the media and entertainment sphere.

He completed his graduation in science and post graduation in management from the Pune University.
